Gazi Student Wi-Fi and Email: Setup Guide

Activate or request student email

The IT FAQ describes applying through the email-request system with a student number and OBS password. The SHMYO notice describes activation of an already assigned account. Follow the portal route that matches your account status.

Open the email-request portal, check whether your account is assigned and follow any password-update instructions. Confirm that you can sign in through Gazi mail before configuring Wi-Fi.

OBS access alone does not establish that your email password is the same.

Choose the network and username format

Gazi_Ogrenci is the campus student network; the relevant official steps request the part of the email address before @. Gazi's eduroam Android steps use the email address as the identity.

For a fictional address 123456@gazi.edu.tr, the Gazi_Ogrenci field requesting the prefix would use 123456. Follow the separate eduroam guide for that network.

Android settings

The official student-network and eduroam Android guides specify TTLS with PAP for the second authentication phase. Use the username format for your selected network and the email-account password.

Your Android version may request additional certificate, domain or anonymous-identity fields. Do not invent values. Use the current institutional guide or contact IT when the screen differs.

Obtain certificate files through official guide links. Do not bypass certificate validation merely to make a connection work.

iPhone, iPad and Mac

The student-network guide describes downloading its profile using Safari. Open the file from the guide's own link and follow your device's profile installation flow. A separate internet connection may be needed first.

Verify the profile's institutional origin. Use the separate eduroam guide for eduroam; the two network profiles should not be treated as interchangeable.

Windows computers

The official page has sections for specific Windows versions. Use the section matching your device when available. If a modern device differs, do not install an old driver package or copy uncertain certificate settings solely because the screen looks similar.

An incorrectly saved profile may affect connection. Consider recreating your own network profile from the official settings, or ask the Support Centre for guidance.

Troubleshoot before repeated attempts

If credentials fail, check email login and the required username format. For a certificate warning, check the official profile and device instructions. If the network is absent, check coverage and Wi-Fi settings.

For support, provide the network name, device, operating system and error text. Do not share passwords or authentication codes. Stop repeated attempts when an account is blocked.

Distinguish mailbox quota from Wi-Fi limits

Gazi University student Wi-Fi has no internet data quota; usage is unlimited. The 10 GB figure in the IT FAQ refers to email mailbox storage, not Wi-Fi data usage. The connection guides do not guarantee a fixed internet speed.

Speed tests describe the connection at that time and location. Compare several measurements rather than treating one result as an institutional guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Wi-Fi password automatically my OBS password?

The Wi-Fi guides use the email-account password. Verify email access first.

Is 10 GB a Wi-Fi quota?

No. The 10 GB figure refers to email mailbox storage, not a Wi-Fi data allowance. Gazi student Wi-Fi has no internet usage quota; it is unlimited.

What if my device differs from the guide?

Contact institutional IT instead of guessing certificate or server values.
